What is Phytotherapy?
Phytotherapy derives from the ancient Greek for ‘plant medicine’ - so phytotherapy is just another word for herbal medicine, or using plants and their extracts for the healing process.
Is it Safe?
As with any medical practice, there are always risks. However, extensive training in clinical practice, pharmacology and extensive case history taking allows us to consider factors such as allergies, sensitivity and co morbidities in the selection of your medicine and treatment choices.
While we can’t say that all herbs are safe for everyone all the time, we can be confident in prescribing them in a safe way. Herbal medicines can be incredibly potent and therefore should be taken as prescribed, but so long as guidance is followed, your treatment should be effective and safe.
If something doesn’t seem to be working for you, it can be addressed and altered where necessary in our regular follow up consultations.
Wouldn’t it be quicker and cheaper to buy herbal medicines over the counter?
Maybe, but proprietary blends you might find in a shop are designed for use in the treatment of various ailments and can be quite limited in their scope of relevance to the individual.
While an over the counter herbal medicine might effect change for the better in many, there can be no question that an in depth consultation and personalised medicine design would be a more effective and comprehensive healthcare approach.
